The character of a man
My CSM sent this link to everyone today ... a compelling story about an Air Force officer who lost his son in Iraq.
... and the President who cared enough to take some time with a mother and father.
On Dec. 10, 2006, our son, Shawn, was a paratrooper deployed on the outskirts of Baghdad. He was supposed to spend the night in camp, but when a fellow soldier became ill Shawn volunteered to take his place on a nighttime patrol--in the convoy's most exposed position as turret gunner in the lead Humvee. He was killed instantly with two other soldiers when an IED ripped through their vehicle.

(The more cynical side of me wonders if the POTUS' predecessor ever spent 20 minutes like that -- but that's a thought unworthy of the story ...)
The problem is that the human mind is like a computer. Two to ten percent of the time we receive real truth, the truth that moral purity is God's way, that there are absolutes that cannot be changed, that we are designed to have biblical principles that cannot be compromised which are called convictions. The real truth is that we are designed by God to be selfless, that is the act of giving up our rights for the welfare of others.
