I am in the Army because -- apparently -- I can't read.

HT to Milblogs...

Newsbusters has the video of author Stephen King telling some very bored-looking students about why the ability to read is so important...it will keep you from being sent to Iraq.

I am always amazed when people like this are so publicly elitist. Do they really still believe this nonsense or is it just something to say to pass the time? My favorite part of his quote is,

I don't want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don't, then you've got, the Army, Iraq, I don't know, something like that. It's, it's not as bright. So, that's my little commercial for that.
